How do you determine the right style for your clients?
Style starts with the functional needs of the client and is refined through conversations about work styles, color and material preferences, and budget.
Were you always interested in design?
My dad is a retired architect, so I grew up surrounded by design ideas. I experimented early on with a doll house, trying out wallpaper and building miniature furniture. I took my first drafting (by hand) and interior design classes in high school, and then went on to study design at UW-Madison.
What is something that would surprise people to learn about you?
In college I wanted to specialize in historic preservation and that area is still a passion of mine.
What is your favorite part about your job?
It is hard to pick one, but here are a few; I enjoy finding solutions to design problems for our clients, as well as space planning and using our rendering software to bring interiors to life.
What are your favorite hobbies outside of work?
I love traveling with my spouse, which shifts me out of routine and gives me new perspectives. I also enjoy perennial gardening and volunteering for my local historical society.
